Posada comes to Dorchester, 2021

Happily, Posada returns to Dorchester this Advent. Posada is an old Mexican tradition retelling the story of Mary and Joseph as they travel from house to house asking for a room for the night. It starts out in the community and ends on Christmas Eve at the church.

Modern day Posada uses nativity figures of Mary and Joseph. Each Dorchester host enjoys the chance symbolically to welcome the figures into their home with the real message of Christmas. Look out for the figures in Dorchester windows, and join others at the Abbey for Advent Sunday; the Posada Party on 12 December (see poster); or at the Crib Service on Christmas Eve, when the figures will feature.
