Historical Society: Farm Boys, Clowns and Gypsies

Robert Kidner will talk about: ‘Farm Boys, Clowns & Gypsies’

He looks at the work of two of England’s most talented 20th century artists, Sir George Clausen, now sadly almost unknown, and Dame Laura Knight, this country’s most celebrated female artist. They had much in common, both were Royal Academicians, Official War Artists, painters of Railway Posters, and possessed on outstanding ability to put light into their paintings.

Robert Kidner has been an enthusiastic amateur artist for over 25 years and often exhibits locally. He has completed a course with the Open College of Arts on ‘the history of western art’. Members may recall his fascinating talks on ‘Railway Poster Art’ in November 2015, and on ‘Art Nouveau and Art Deco’ in April 2017.

Visitors and new members are always very welcome to our talks and outings.
