Back Stories of Baptisms: Customs and Christening Garments (including Dorchester Social History)
This illustrated lecture will consider briefly the history of baptism and christening, particularly in the English Church. Research of local records, documents and photographs has provided much material of local interest and there will be antique textiles and artefacts on display, some with specific Dorchester connections.
Helen Russell is a Dorchester resident who taught Textiles for many years and has a keen interest in the subject’s history, building a collection of antique textiles.
Denise Line is a Dorchester resident who has a lifelong fascination with family history, photographs, Oxfordshire and Herefordshire customs, and church history.
*(Denise and Helen have worked together on the material for this lecture and, in Helen’s absence on business, Denise will present it.)
