Come along and celebrate summer ahead of National Meadows Day.
Come along and celebrate summer ahead of National Meadows Day. There will be activities for all the family; admire beautiful wildflowers, discover more about managing meadows and our work to conserve Oxfordshire’s rare flora. There will also be a chance to have a chat with the scyther mowing our stunning historic parkland and meadows, a traditional country skill that was once the only way to cut grass.
The Arboretum’s meadow is beautiful at this time of year – filled with billowing grasses, colourful wildflowers and the hum of insects.
You may even spot the purplish-pink flower spikes of a southern marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza praetermissa) or the common spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii).
Wildflower meadows support lots of other wildlife and the summer fair will be an opportunity to learn more about and celebrate this very special habitat.
A great day out for all, and FREE with your Arboretum entry ticket, £5.45 for an adult ticket (£6 with Gift Aid), children go free with a paying family member.
Gates open at 11am, please note car parking for the event is limited. We would encourage our visitors to consider car-sharing or using public transport where possible.
