Culham and District Horticultural Club - Mat Reese - The Art of a Flower Border @ Abbey Guest House

We have speakers at the Abbey Guest House on the 3rd Wednesday at 7.30pm of the 6 winter months: January-April, October and November. In May, June, July and September we organise group garden visits. The annual subscription is £20. The cost of garden visits depends on how much the owners charge.

While Mat was at Wisley he was introduced to gardener and writer Christopher Lloyd and spent subsequent weekends volunteering in his garden, Great Dixter. So when he finished at Kew, there was only one place he wanted to be. He went to see Fergus Garrett, head gardener at Dixter, and started work almost immediately. He says “Dixter is gardened in a creative and inventive way, so we were constantly trying new things”.
After that, in 2010 Mat moved to Malverleys, a private estate in Hampshire, where he is developing and redesigning the gardens. He gave us a talk on Melverleys in November 2016. Mat is now regarded as one of a handful of top-echelon gardeners working in Britain today.
