Culham and District Horticultural Club - Marina Christopher - Allergic to Annuals @ Abbey Guest House

We have speakers at the Abbey Guest House on the 3rd Wednesday at 7.30pm of the 6 winter months: January-April, October and November. In May, June, July and September we organise group garden visits. The annual subscription is £20. The cost of garden visits depends on how much the owners charge.

Marina will describe the varied use of annuals, as fillers when creating a new border, as drifts to create cohesion in a planting, as specimens, green manures, pollinator caviar as well as bedding displays (only a passing mention on the latter!) and introducing unusual varieties for the discerning gardener. The talk will be illustrated with plant material and various sundries.
After a couple of reincarnations from Firecrest Nursery and Green Farm Plants, Marina finally emerged as Phoenix Perennial Plants in 2002. Phoenix is sited in a cold, wet frost pocket so plants have to be extremely hardy and tolerate winter wet. Phoenix earns medals vicariously by supplying some of the top garden designers with unusual plants for the Chelsea Flower Show and has won ‘Best in Show’ several times! Marina became an author in 2006 with her book ‘Late Summer Flowers’.
